Welcome to dementia research at the University of Hull!
At Hull we have a longstanding applied dementia care research programme. This programme has received significant external funding over two decades for health and care research across the trajectory of dementia. We have conducted collaborative research studies with UK Universities (e.g. KCL, UCL, UEA, Bangor Wales, Nottingham, Bradford, and York), several NHS and Social Care organisations, NGOs and an influential multidisciplinary dementia care research group INTERDEM founded in Hull in 1999, now spanning 23 countries in Europe, Australia and the US www.interdem.org.
Our home is within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Hull, set within the multidisciplinary research group SPARC (Social and Psychological Research in Long Term Conditions).
Our focus is the translation of innovation and research into practice and support of people with dementia, families, staff and their communities.
We want to develop practical, personalised programmes that people with dementia, their families and health and social care staff can use to help maintain dignity and well-being. Additionally we want to work alongside people with dementia and their families in finding support that really works to resolve the personal challenges they face in their everyday lives.
